CATANIA: Catania has both a history and a very active present. This is the second largest city in Sicily although many will argue it is the first. A short stop in Piazza del Duomo, surrounded on all sides by baroque monuments and the central lava Fontana bustling Via Etnea will prove the point. Shops of every description an impressive outdoor market and a food market that can only be in Sicily, are all within minutes of each other. Enough time for lunch, you are spoilt for choice.
MODICA: This proud, prosperous and ancient citry is one of Sicily’s baroque gems. The main street, “Il Corso”, is a typical Italian meeting place with cafes and majestic buildings. The church of San Giorgio is an impressive monument, built after the earthquake of 1693, surrounded by a flight of 250 steps to further enhance the scenic beauty of its fine façade.
